24th Development Policy Research Month Opens, Highlights Strong Institutions and Human Capital QUEZON CITY — September 1,2026

 The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) officially kicked off the 24th Development Policy Research Month (DPRM) with a Kick-off Press Conference and Media Awards, bringing together policymakers, researchers, members of the media, and development stakeholders.

This year’s celebration carries the theme “Building Strong Institutions, Unlocking Human Capital Potential”, underscoring the vital role of effective institutions in transforming investments in education, health, skills development, employment, and social protection into meaningful opportunities for Filipinos.


The kick-off program featured discussions on key development issues and the importance of evidence-based policy research in helping government and other stakeholders craft responsive and effective policies.


A major highlight was the Saliksik at Balita: PIDS Media Awards 2026, which recognized members of the media for their valuable contributions to informing the public about development issues and research.

The event also provided an opportunity for journalists to engage with PIDS experts during the press conference and open forum, focusing on how research can help address the country's continuing socioeconomic challenges.

The annual DPRM observance serves as a platform to promote greater public awareness of development research and encourage stronger collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and the media.


As the Philippines continues to pursue inclusive and sustainable development, the 24th DPRM emphasizes a clear message: strong institutions and empowered human capital are essential foundations for national progress.
